Sensor probes begin misreading when waste becomes attached to the probe. This can happen for any number of reasons, and it can even happen to those who are taking all of the appropriate measures to properly care for their black tanks - so if this happens to you, don’t beat yourself up! It can happen to the best of us! Also, rest assured that we are going to help you get your sensors back on track with Restore-It!
Before we get started, please note: Restore-It cannot clean and restore broken sensor probes. If your probes are broken or damaged, no amount of cleaning will restore them to their fully operational state. Also, please note that Restore-It will not work in your gray tanks to restore misreading sensor probes. Gray and galley tank sensor probes become inoperable for different reasons than black tanks. To restore your gray or galley tank sensors, you will need to read this guide.

Restoring Black Tank Sensors In Stationary RVs
Misreading black tank sensors can happen to anyone, including Full Time RVers and those with stationary RVs. We’ll help you restore your sensors with Restore-It.
Sensor probes in gray or galley tanks tend to misread and malfunction for different reasons than those in black tanks. We’ll help you restore your gray or galley tank sensors.
Are you sure your sensors are dirty, or maybe they are broken? Watch this video to diagnose your sensor problem. Now that you are confident that your sensors are just dirty, and not broken, let’s help you restore your sensors!
With Restore-It, time is the magic. The longer Restore-It sits inside the black tank, touching the sensor probes, the better chance it has to chew through the waste that is clinging to the probes, and closing the electrical circuit that is causing your probes to read incorrectly. We recommend you let it sit for 48 - 72 hours for best results.
We recommend that you try the process again, and this time give it plenty of time to work! There are two treatments in each bottle of Restore-It, so you should have everything you need for a second cleaning.
Please Note: Restore-It is the strongest black tank sensor cleaner on the market and is used by professional RV technicians to restore misreading black tank sensors, so if you’re having a hard time restoring your sensors with Restore-It, you simply aren’t going to find a stronger product. You may need to replace the sensors, or wiring, to solve the problem.
Restore-It will work best if left undisturbed in a tank full of water but if you're a Full Timer or you are actively using your RV, this can be difficult! In this case, we recommend that you add Restore-It to your tanks while you use your toilet as normal. Many RVers dump their tanks every 5-7 days. If you allow Restore-It to work inside your black tank for this time period, it should provide enough time for the sensors to get cleaned.
Be sure to rinse (flush) your tank very thoroughly after using Restore-It to fully remove the waste that Restore-It has broken down. (See FAQ for rinsing instructions.)
Please Note: It is not uncommon for Full Timers to have to repeat this process a few times to fully clean and restore their sensor probes.
Yes, Unique Restore-It is Septic safe. Just make sure to check with your local ordinances about whether you can dump in your home septic tank!
Since our bacteria are hibernating in spore form they are very resilient and usually basic freezing is not going to be a problem. When freezing becomes a problem is when the bottle repeatedly freezes and thaws. Go ahead and give the product a try!
Optimal temperatures for our products are between 45-85 degrees.
All of our products have a shelf life of 2 years from the date of manufacturing. To find the date your product was manufactured, look at the first 6 digits of the code stamped on the bottle. This is the date it was produced (MM/DD/YY).
If your product is older than 2 years, don’t assume it’s a lost cause. We keep retains of every batch we make, going back 15+ years, and the products still work to their full capacity. It’s highly likely that yours will too - even if it is older than 2 years.
Yes, but this is not necessary! If you choose to use both, we recommend using Clean-It first because it may actually solve your sensor problems before using Restore-It. If your sensors are still misreading after treating your black tank with Clean-It, then we recommend using Restore-It as a follow up.
We recommend unclogging your tank with Clear-It before you try to restore your sensors. Unclogging your tank may solve your sensor problem, and Restore-It is simply not necessary.
RV Digest-It and RV Digest-It Plus are both routine tank treatments that are designed to break down waste, toilet paper, eliminate odors, and maintain RV holding tanks! They are designed to be preventative treatments, not problem solvers.
Restore-It is designed to solve misreading sensor problems by cleaning the waste that is stuck on the sensor probes, closing the electrical circuit to the water. Restore-It is much stronger than RV Digest-It or RV Digest-It Plus. We do not recommend using RV Digest-It or RV Digest-It Plus to solve misreading black tank sensors.
